Why is the Humane Society of Rome full of balloons? For the month of September, we are offering reduced price adoptions on cats! Choose a cat you would like to adopt, then choose a balloon. 5%, 10% 15% OFF, 25% OFF 50% OFF or FREE are written on the backs of each balloon--the savings are so great, maybe you'll even want to adopt a second cat! (The price reduction refers to the adoption fee only, adopters must still pay the $35 spay/neuter deposit if the cat is unaltered.)
Animals bring so much joy and love to our lives. Their deaths can bring a massive amount of sadness and loneliness. The Humane Society of Rome would like to reach out to everyone who is grieving over the loss of a pet. We will be holding our first "Pet Bereavement Support Group" on Tuesday, September 16, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The group will be facilitated by a grief counselor, and will be a safe and supportive place to talk about the animals who meant so much, and living with the heartbreak of losing them. Please contact the shelter if you are interested in attending.
The annual "Paws for a Cause" walkathon will be held in Bellamy Harbor Park on Saturday, October 4th, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. Click here for more information. Print out a poster or a pledge form. Please come join us!
The Humane Society of Rome, Inc. is a non-profit animal shelter located in Rome, New York. We have been serving the needs of the Mohawk Valley and communities throughout NYS since 1956. We provide shelter, food, care, lots of TLC and medical attention if needed for cats and dogs on a daily basis for hundreds of homeless cats and dogs.
Although we are a small shelter we manage to do great things, and we thank all of you that support us through your donations or volunteer efforts. We are open to the public everyday except major holidays.
The main goal of our shelter is to find a good home for every cat and dog that comes to us. We have had some of our animals stay with us for over a year before we finally found the right match for them and their new family. Animals adopted from our shelter must be spayed/neutered and are up to date on their shots. If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, you can begin the process by filling out our Adoptions applications and getting it back to us with your request. We’ll work with you to ensure you find the right animal for you.
Besides helping to find good homes for our cats and dogs, we also provide a number of other services. We do Humane Education throughout the community. If your school, organization or group is interested in having us visit please get in touch. Our shelter offers a Sponsorship Program for people who may not be able to adopt but are interested in helping our animals.
Our Volunteers (we are always looking for new ones) work closely with staff in a number of areas. There are lots of ways to get involved. We need people to help us take care of all the beautiful animals, go out into the community and do adoptions, and help with office projects or act as foster parents. If you have an idea, let us know. We welcome all age groups; however, if you are under 16, you need to get permission from an adult before you can become a volunteer. Volunteers are welcome anytime, even if we have not yet opened our doors to the public. Some volunteers start the day they visit us. Come alone, with family, friends or bring a group, class or your troop. If you need to do a school or community service project, or you are looking to help homeless animals, please contact us. You can stop by the shelter or call 337-1434 for more information. Thanks for caring. All of us hope to see you soon!
The Humane Society of Rome welcomes all inquiries and visitors. If you have any questions or need to contact us, please get in touch. We hope you will come visit our furry friends in person and thank you again for stopping by our website.
The dogs here don't ask for much...a warm bed, friends to rely on and a second chance. Become a friend and visit www.DogsRuleGear.com to participate in the "Pedigree" Buy a Bag program. For every bag you donate, Pedigree will match the donation. All our shelter dogs thank you for remembering them!

Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for another dog to sleep in comfort, please
